The founder and CEO of UnAged, Diane Beckett, is a caregiver, dementia expert, and senior care consultant. A longtime advocate who analyzes industry trends, Diane lends a unique voice to the national dialogue on aging and creating safe, affordable, livable spaces.
Forced to navigate a fragmented long-term care system, Diane’s journey into senior care began with a deeply personal experience that became her life’s work. As a caregiver for her terminally ill, 84-year-old mother, Diane learned firsthand the challenges facing unpaid family caregivers.
In 2008, Diane co-founded and launched LiveWell Assisted Living, a nationally recognized dementia care home business in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. For nearly fifteen years, Diane served as Executive Director and Administrator and successfully licensed and launched eight dementia residential care homes in the Triangle.
In her role, Diane led the day-to-day operations of a multi-site assisted living and dementia community. She directed a team responsible for resident care, clinical operations, administration, dining, sales, and maintenance. Diane was responsible for productivity, revenue generation, and cost reduction and was integral in driving technology to enhance operations. Under Diane’s leadership, LiveWell received a four-star 100% rating from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and was recognized as a “Caring Super Star” by Caring.com, an honor which ranks LiveWell among the top 1% of assisted living operators in the country.
An Obie award-winning actor, Diane credits her success in long-term and dementia care to the acting and improvisation experience she developed over the years working in theater, television, and film. In theater terms, Livewell was her creative space to test her theories on the role of improvisation in caring for seniors with dementia. In her work with elders, Diane uses this creative process to define best practices and policies to meet the needs of an increasingly aging America.
A Boston native, Diane earned her bachelor’s degree from Brandeis University. She completed master-level courses in gerontology at the McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies at the University of Massachusetts in Boston. Diane is a licensed administrator by the State of North Carolina.
